Taiwan government bonds are quiet on the last trading day ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays, says a local trader. "The local bond market just shrugs off overnight declines in U.S. Treasurys as most people are already in holiday mood," the trader says. A widening gap between bids and offers of bonds suggests many traders are reluctant to trade actively, he adds. Friday will be the last settlement day for bonds, as well as the last trading day for local stocks ahead of the holidays. The 10-year bond yield is at 1.5950% versus 1.5965% Tuesday; the five-year bond yield is at 0.9850% versus 0.9950%. (fanny.liu@wsj.com)
